Melbourne Beach...Old Florida

Last week we discovered a part of Florida that I didn't think existed any more...a piece of the Florida shoreline that was not overly commercialized. What a wonderful surprise! We needed to do a shakedown trip in our motor home and because we had never been to the Outdoor Resorts in Melbourne Beach, we selected that location. Well...we were very pleasantly surprised with both locations. The Outdoor Resorts was staffed with wonderful people and we had a site right on the Indian River...quiet, peaceful, and with a gentle breeze that no matter how high the temperature reached, we were nice and cool. Then...what a surprise to discover that Melbourne Beach was still a residential community. No buildings on the beach front were over three stories tall, there were large and nicely kept public parks and plenty of public access to their lovely, white sand beaches. Then...maybe the best part...the business district was clean and not cluttered with the sleazy T-shirt shops and bars that clutter and degrade most Florida beach towns. The mainstay of the business district was what you would find in most small Florida towns...plus...one of the best seafood restaurants you will find any where. If you are ever in Melbourne Beach, please don't pass up dinner at the Island Fish Grill!!! The best!! I just hope that the residents of this piece of paradise never give in to the greed of out-of-towners who will do the best they can to destroy this idyllic setting.
